Young at Heart

Watched a fantastic documentary on Channel 4 last night about the Young at Heart chorus - a group of New England pensioners in a choir who stage concerts singing songs from a repertoire of Sonic Youth, Coldplay, Talking Heads, Hendrix, James Brown, ... Extremely moving, with the choir in continual state of flux due to human frailties and the death of members, and extremely uplifting, as the members explore and present the songs with originality and a whole new dimension as lyrics of love, loss, and rebellion emerge from lips of experience. Beautiful.

I have already started making my own list of songs for when I reach that senior age. I will up sticks to New England, hope Sonic Youth could still be in the repertoire, and might try a bit of Stone Roses, Dinosaur Jr, the Smiths, and also a bit of Kylie and Wham. "Edge of Heaven" will take on a different meaning. It could be fun. Only 35 years to wait.

This documentary sounds great. I can't wait to see it. I saw another really fantastic film about the Young at Heart Chorus a few years ago. It was very touching and beautifully-done. If you enjoy this film or fall in love with the Chorus and want to see more, definitely check out Forever Young at Heart: The Earlier Years at youngatheartchorus.net!
